Our first Special Event will be a repeat of last year's successful
Book Groups Tea, held in the Bradbourne School Hall. Members of local book groups are invited to come
along and meet up and discuss their book choices over tea and cakes. All participants will be asked to bring
a list of some of the books they have most enjoyed discussing over the past year. Our speakers will be Carys
Davies and Vanessa Gebbie, and they will be talking about the art of the short story.
The title of their talk will be 'Short Circuit'.
Saturday 26th September, 2.30
pm, at the Bradbourne School.
The 2009 Literary Lunch will be held
this year in the delightful surroundings of St Julian's Club, where a delicious lunch will be served. The speaker
will be the distinguished historian, broadcaster and author John Julius Norwich, who will be talking about
his recent autobiography, Trying to Please. The literary lunch is always extremely popular and tickets are
limited, so early booking is essential. Please note that the talk will precede the lunch.
Tuesday
29th September, 12.00 start at St Julian's Club (SOLD OUT)
This year's free literary event for local schools will be hosted by Sevenoaks
County Primary School. The speaker will be Ian Whybrow, author of the popular Harry & the Bucketful
of Dinosaurs series and one of the top ten most-read children's writers in the UK. His talk is entitled A Bucketful
of Stories. There will be two sessions, at 10 and 11 am.
Thursday
1st October, 10 - 12 am, at Sevenoaks County Primary School.
The sixth
Weald Literary Walk will again be led by Gilly Moysey, who will guide the traditional afternoon
ramble through the pretty village of Weald, which has been home to a number of writers including Edward and Helen Thomas,
W.H. Davies, Arthur Koestler and Vita Sackville West. A visit will be made to the beautiful garden of Long Barn, Vita's
home with her husband, diplomat and writer Harold Nicolson, for many years. The walk will be followed by readings and
a delicious home-baked afternoon tea. The walk is always a sell-out, so book early.
